Usability Tests for Siemens Medical Solutions
The background
With a turnover of 8.2 bn euros in the fiscal year 2005/06, Siemens Medical Solutions is one of the biggest health companies worldwide.
The objectives
Within a relaunch, the website siemens.com/medical was supposed to be optimally adjusted to the users' needs. Mainly physicians and sales departments in hospitals consult the website, often under time pressure. They are the most important target group.
The procedure
The Usability Consultants of User Interface Design GmbH (UID) visited the target group at their work places to get an idea of the use scenarios. How well the target group gets alond with the website, was found out in 28 usability tests. A qualitative benchmarking with the webpages of the most important competitors supplemented the usability tests.
The result
Besides positive aspects, the usability test results uncovered weaknesses of the website. They will be eliminated now, keeping in mind how typical users interact with the website. The benchmarking results offer the opportunity to improve the position of the Siemens Medical website in the competition.
