Usability test for FIDUCIA: ATM and statement printer put to test

FIDUCIA IT AG is one of the major IT companies in Germany and a long-term collaboration partner of User Interface Design GmbH (UID).

The company again relied on the extensive knowhow of User Interface Design GmbH for the revision of the operating concept of their ATMs and statement printers.

In a usability test, UID examined to what extent the requirements of the devices have been met. Designing the user interfaces is a special challenge, since it must be taken into account that the devices must be able to be operated without difficulties by different users with different backgrounds. A 16-year-old student must be able to retrieve his account balance as easily as his 70-year-old grandmother.

Besides the usability of the standard functions and enhanced functions, such as recharging a prepaid card or money card, the comprehensibility of instructions and error messages was the main focus of the usability test. Furthermore, two additional aspects were examined by UID: The readability on different systems as well as potential differences as regards the behavior users of different banks show when operating the devices. The usability test results made it clear, how the user interface can be optimally adjusted to the users' needs.
